Strawberry fields

Episcia Strawberry fields

This episcia just bloomed! During the winter! I purchased this one at a African violet show in Austin, Texas. When I first brought it home it just wouldn’t grow. I thought maybe it needed to grow in a terrarium but the truth is I don’t like growing plants in terrariums. I remembered I read an article about begonia seedlings growing in a milk carton that was cut open in the center on both sides to help the seedlings¬† dampen off. I tried this with this episcia and to my surprise it started to grow now I can take cuttings off of it and start them with no problem. The flower is a golden yellow! So far every flower has been a golden yellow with red/orange markings. The leaves are a deep quilted¬† mauve color. Just gorgeous!
